Delete Your Bookmuse Account
The short version: In the Bookmuse app, go to Settings › Account › Delete Account. Your account and everything in it are deleted right away and can't be restored. If you can't open the app, email [email protected] and we'll delete it for you.
In the app
- Open Bookmuse on your iPhone, iPad, Mac or Android device and sign in to the account.
- Go to Settings › Account › Delete Account.
- Sign in with Apple or Google once more to confirm it's you.
The account is deleted at once, and the app removes the account's library from that device. Your other devices are signed out and remove it the next time they open Bookmuse. The web dashboard (app.bookmuse.date) can't delete an account; use the app or email us.
By email
If you can't use the app, email [email protected] with the subject "Delete my Bookmuse account":
- Write from the email address of your Bookmuse account, or tell us which address it is.
- If you signed in with Apple and chose Hide My Email, tell us the relay address. You'll find it in your Apple Account settings under Sign in with Apple › Bookmuse.
We reply to that address to confirm the request comes from you, then delete the account within 30 days and tell you when it's done. The result is the same as deleting in the app.
What is deleted
- Your account: email, name, profile picture and the Apple or Google sign-ins linked to it.
- Every signed-in device, web dashboard and AI agent connection.
- Your library: books' details and reading positions, highlights, notes, bookmarks, saved words and review progress, lookup history, Ask AI conversations, reading time, folders, reminders and settings, including items you deleted earlier.
- Your book files and covers in our storage.
- Your share links, and in the feed your posts, comments, likes, follows, blocks and reports.
- Your Google Drive and Dropbox connections: we revoke Bookmuse's access with Google and Dropbox. If you signed in with Apple, we also revoke Sign in with Apple for Bookmuse.
- Your AI usage counts and the AI answers you reported.
When
Your account and its data are deleted from our database immediately. Book files, covers and pictures in storage are removed by a background task, usually within minutes. We keep no backups, so nothing can be restored afterwards.
What is kept, and why
- Shared book files: if another Bookmuse user has added exactly the same EPUB file, the single stored copy stays for them. It's no longer linked to you.
- Copies others made: a book someone added to their own library through your share link stays in their library.
- Server logs: short technical logs (time, address path, result, app version and your former account ID, no content) stay until they are rotated out after a short time. A record of the cleanup task stays for 24 hours.
- Cached images: covers of public feed posts and profile pictures may stay for a while in Cloudflare's and browsers' caches, without any link to your account.
- Outside Bookmuse: your files in your own Google Drive, Dropbox or iCloud, and what an AI agent already read from your library, are not touched by us.
Delete some data, keep the account
- Erase All Data (Settings) deletes your whole library from your account and all your devices, but keeps the account, your profile, your feed posts, the AI answers you reported and your Drive or Dropbox connections.
- You can also delete single books, words, highlights, notes, posts and comments, remove your profile picture, and disconnect Drive, Dropbox or an AI agent in Settings › Connections.
Without an account, Bookmuse keeps everything on your device: deleting the app removes it. See the privacy policy for more.
